Wells Joins Atlantic East Conference as Associate Member in Field Hockey Starting in 2024

LANCASTER, Pa. - Commissioner Jessica Huntley and the Atlantic East Conference is proud to announce Wells College will be joining the conference as an associate member in field hockey, effective fall of 2024.

"We are thrilled to add Wells to our field hockey programs," said Huntley. "Wells will be a great fit as we continue to build our sports programs. They will help us continue on our path to give our student athletes the best possible experience."

Wells, who had been competing in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) , will join Gwynedd Mercy, Immaculata, Manhattanville, Marywood, and Neumann. The Express are immediately eligible for all field hockey conference recognition.

Well's athletic Director, Tara Ruckh said, "We are beyond excited for our field hockey program at Wells to join the Atlantic East Conference. We look forward to competing against schools who have a rich history in field hockey, and who have set the bar high as we continue to grow as a program. We would like to thank the conference office, athletic directors, and field hockey coaches for welcoming Wells to the Atlantic East Conference."

Wells was founded in 1868 in Aurora, N.Y. At its inception the college was known as Wells Seminary from 1868-1870 before becoming the small private liberal arts college it is today.

Marywood head coach Julie Trott, "we are excited to welcome Wells into the Atlantic East Conference for field hockey and to continue to grow our sport in the conference."

"I am absolutely thrilled for our program to be aligned with such a storied & successful conference!" said Wells head coach Adair Milmoe. "The mixture of Pennsylvania & New York institutions, which are the "fabric" and history for the sport of field hockey in the United States, is a beautiful blend of academics and athletics!  This move to the AEC will mark a pivotal moment in field hockey at Wells. It signals that we must be prepared to achieve & grow to our potential in & out of the classroom along with our AEC peers."

All conference schools will compete one time throughout the season followed by a conference tournament. The league champion will advance to the NCAA tournament after receiving the Atlantic East Conference Automatic Qualification.
