MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS PENN. ST. BERKS

The Wells College men's soccer team defeated North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Penn. St. Berks 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Reading, PA. Nick Accordino (Hamburg, NY) led the way for the Express with a goal and an assist while Derek Wheeler (Ava, NY) added a goal of his own for the Express.  Express goalie Mike Birklin (Cicero, NY) finished with three saves.

Wheeler put the Express on the board early as he beat Penn St. goalie Jonathan Martin for a 1-0 lead. Wells entered the half up 1-0 having out shot their opponent 5-2 in the half.

Penn St. would tie the game early in the second half as Mike Zopfi would score off a rebound to tie the game at 1-1. With time winding down in the second half Accordino would head the ball past Martin for the eventual game winning goal and giving the Express a 2-1 lead.

The Express out shot Penn. State 6-4 in the second half and 11-6 for the game while posting a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

With the win the Express finish the season at 5-8-2 and will await the seeding announcement from the NEAC office on the upcoming conference tournament that will begin play on Friday, November 7th.
