First-Place Abington Defeats Wells Men's Soccer

The Wells College men's soccer team took on first-place Penn State Abington and came out on the losing end of a 4-1 score on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Wells Turf Field. The visiting Nittany Lions remained undefeated in North Eastern Athletic Conference matches this season with a 7-0-0 NEAC mark, and Penn State Abington is 9-3-0 overall.

Wells is 2-11-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the NEAC.

Penn State Abington took an early lead when the Nittany Lions were awarded a penalty kick after a foul by a Wells player inside of the area. Abington converted and led 1-0 in the sixth minute of the match.

A second goal for the Lions stretched the lead to 2-0 at halftime. A cross from a corner kick was played down by a Wells defender and Hernando Villamil collected in the scramble and scored inside the left post.

Abington added two second-half goals. The first came off a long throw-in and shot from the center of the box in the 51st minute. The next was a curled direct kick from 22 yards in the 60th minute.

Wells broke through with a goal in the 77th minute when Pete Paluch converted a spot kick. It was his second goal of the season. The penalty was earned after a nice combination passing play by Mekhi Edge-Wallace and Jasper Ehrhardt. A return cross from Ehrhardt played Edge-Wallace into the area and he was fouled from behind on his shot attempt.

Wells goalkeeper Cam Davis had eight saves in the match.
