Women's Soccer Earns NEAC Victory vs. St. Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Wells College women's soccer team posted a 7-1 victory over the Soaring Eagles from the College of Saint Elizabeth Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Wells improves to 4-11 overall on the year while evening their North Eastern Athletic Conference record at 4-4. The Screaming Eagles remain winless on the season, falling to 0-13 overall and to 0-7 within league play.

With seven goals against St. Elizabeth, Wells has racked up the most goals in one game dating back to Oct. 13, 2012 when the Express scored eight times against Wilson. Wells has scored seven-plus goals only four times since the start of the 2009 women's soccer season.

Sophomore Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.) led all Wells players by scoring three goals in the contest, recording her second career hat trick in the process. The hat trick was the third of the season for the Express – Hiltbrand posted three goals against Cobleskill St. on Sept. 14, 2013 while classmate Shannon Blanford (Fayetteville, N.Y.) struck three times against Gallaudet on Sept. 29, 2013.

Senior Lindsey Bush (Averill Park, N.Y.) scored her second collegiate goal at 25:31 to open the scoring for Wells. Following two goals from Hiltbrand, two freshmen scored their first collegiate goals to bolster the Express lead as Taylor Brown (Clinton, N.Y.) and Savannah Scott (Albuquerque, N. Mex.) added goals to help the Express to victory. Blanford also added her eighth goal of the season in the 63rd minute.

St. Elizabeth was able to score their first goal of the season in the 79th minute as Brianna Fedorich forced home a penalty kick to cut into the deficit. The penalty kick was a direct result of a foul committed by the Express within the goal box.

Wells goalkeeper Kylie Nishioka (Encinitas, Calif.) made nine saves in the winning effort. Grace Bailey racked up eight saves on 15 total shots faced for St. Elizabeth.

Wells returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 19 as they face-off against the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Abington in a 2:00 p.m. road contest.
