Lancaster Bible Takes Overtime Win Over Wells Women's Soccer

The Wells College women's soccer team took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but didn't hold on to the advantage as visiting Lancaster Bible College rallied for a 2-1 overtime victory over the Express on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Wells Turf Field. Wells is 8-4-0 overall and 5-3-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Lancaster Bible is 10-4-0 and 9-1-0 in the NEAC.

Wells opened the scoring with 14:30 remaining in the first half on a goal by Amber Welsh, who took a pass from Yanna Ososkalo on the left side and fired a low shot across the net inside the right post.

A strong wind blew throughout the game in the favor of Wells for the first half and in the favor of Lancaster Bible in the second half. The Chargers took advantage with the game-tying goal in the latter portion of the second half.

An attacking move through the midfield found Brianne Lieb, who dribbled against a Wells defender, found space near the top of the penalty area, and fired a right-footed shot under the crossbar.

The game went to overtime, and just 49 seconds into the extra period, Hannah Bernstein lofted a pass over the Wells defense and Raegan Horst scored from close range.

Karlie Maloney made six saves for the Express.

It was the second year in a row that Lancaster Bible pulled out an overtime win over Wells, as the Chargers won the 2015 meeting between the teams by a 3-2 final score in Lancaster, Pa.

The Express are back in action Sunday against NEAC first-place team Penn State-Berks. The game begins at noon at the Wells Turf Field.
