Women's Soccer Open's Season vs Defenders

The Wells College women's soccer team opened their season in Aurora, NY against the Clarks Summit defenders. The Express used a late second-half goal from Jade Bouvier to secure the tie 2-2 in a non-conference match-up.

The Defenders controlled the game early until the Express took advantage of a corner kick opportunity in the 15th minute and scored their first goal of the season when Anna Bernatavitz found the back of the net (assist from Ericka Arancio). 13 minutes later the Defenders were able to answer back when Ksenya Larsen-Sorterup set up Naomi Sadowitz for the goal in the box. Both teams would create scoring opportunities before halftime but could not capitalize and the first half would conclude with a score, of 1-1.

The Express continued to fight in the second half creating 9 shots on goal. Some strong goalkeeper play from first-year athlete Jade Bouvier was able to keep the Express in this one as she turned away 13 shots in 70 minutes of the game in goal. However, that wasn't all Bouvier was capable of today. After being relieved of her duties in goal, she would enter the game at midfield and find herself with a breakaway late in the second half. Jade was able to bury the show just left of the Clarks Summit keeper to give the Express a 2-1 lead in the 81st minute of the game. The defenders would not go away quietly, however, and in the 84th minute, Ksenya Larsen-Sorterup would bury a deep shot off of a free kick to tie the game up data 2 with 5 minutes left. The Defenders would maintain possession for most of the final minutes but the Express defense fought off multiple free kicks and corner kicks to finish with a 2-2 tie in the season opener. 

The Express were outshot by a margin of 27-14, including 17-10 in shots on goal.

Women's soccer will be home once again on Sunday the 4th when they host Cobleskill at 1 PM.
