Women's Volleyball Mounts Massive Comeback At SUNY Canton

Wells College women's volleyball continued their stretch of road games Saturday afternoon at a tri-match hosted by SUNY Canton.

Up first for the Express was SUNY Plattsburgh.

Miah Williamson tried to push the Express into the lead at the end of the first set with 4 straight serves including a service ace. Marta Corral-Cajigas sent home a late kill as well but the Express fell in the first set, 25-21. In the second set, the Express kept it close the entire way but in the end the Plattsburgh offense overpowered the Express and won, 26-24. Wells jumped out to a small early lead in the third set thanks to Miah Williamson and Elayna McDermott. Later in the set the Express had a few attempts to rally but Plattsburgh took down Wells in three straight sets, 25-20.

The SUNY Canton Roo's were up next.

This match looked like it was nearly over when the Express would not go away in the third set after being down 2 sets to 0. They took a small 13-10 lead over the Roo's, then kills from Alycia Wilson and Elise Peacock kept the offense rolling. The Roo's ended this set with a service error and the Express moved on to a fourth set. There, they built a 21-9 lead after multiple kills from Marta Corral Cajigas. The last two points of the set came from kills by Miah Williamson and the Express forced a 5th set. In the deciding set, Canton took a three-point lead early on forcing a timeout by the Express. The Express came out after the timeout with some energy and built a lead of their own after kills from Elayna McDermott, Miah Williamson, Elise Peacock, and Alycia Wilson. After the teams switched sides, Miah Williamson ripped off two service aces in a row for a 10-8 lead. Lex Carfi sent home a kill from Brianah Dawson to get Wells to 14 points and then one final kill by Lexi Carfi from Sarina Soto completed the comeback for the Express!

Women's volleyball will return home for their home opener Tuesday evening against Elmira College at 7 PM.
