Women's Soccer Toppled By D'Youville, 5-1

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's soccer team posted a 5-1 loss to visiting D'Youville College at the South Athletic Field on Sunday. With the loss, Wells falls to 1-5 overall following the non-conference tilt while D'Youville picks up their second win in as many games played this season.

Trailing by a 5-0 margin in the 54th minute, a foul by a D'Youville player granted the Express a free kick. Senior Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.) went back to take the kick and blasted a ball from 40 yards out that just crawled under the crossbar to place Wells on the board. Hiltbrand's goal was the lone strike for Wells on the day as the hosts were outshot 27-to-12 in the contest. D'Youville also had the 9-to-3 edge in corner kicks.

Magan Magee got D'Youville on the board at 12:27, carrying a pass from Terra Juda up the left side and blasting a shot that beat Wells backstop Quinn Doubet (Virgil, N.Y.) just inside the right post. Nicole LaVere scored with 9:48 left in the first half, reeling in a Rebecca Alvira pass that was tapped home behind the Express netminder for the 2-0 lead.

Magee struck again with 36 seconds left in the first half on nearly the exact same play. Rachel Hermanski sent a long ball from midfield near the top of the box where it was headed down by Alvira. Able to place the ball behind Doubet, Magee crashed the net unopposed and scored for her team's third goal of the game.

Juda scored her first and second goals of the season at 50:14 and 53:53, respectively, on very similar plays. The Wells defense allowed Juda two one-on-one opportunities with Doubet and the D'Youville forward was able to cash in both times.

Doubet made 10 saves on 15 shots faced in the loss while Magan Dulniak allowed one goal on seven shots for D'Youville.

Wells opens up North Eastern Athletic Conference play this Friday, Sept. 18 as they face-off against Lancaster Bible on the road at 5:15 p.m.
