Women’s Soccer Battles Penn St.-Abington To 2-0 Loss

PHILADELPHIA - The Wells College women's soccer team battled the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Abington to a 2-0 loss Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Express drop to 4-11 and to 4-5 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The Nittany Lions are second in the NEAC with an 8-1 league record to go along with an 11-2 overall record.

After a scoreless first half, Mallory Mugnier scored her 11th goal of the season in the game's 54th minute to place Penn St.-Abington in the lead for good. A cross by the Nittany Lions was cut off by Wells goalkeeper Olivia Baum (Summerville, S.C.), but the rebound was force home by Mugnier for the eventual game-winning goal.

Ashley Quenzer scored with only two seconds remaining in regulation time, lifting the hosts to a 2-0 lead. Mugnier crossed a ball into the center of the box where Quenzer converted her second goal of the year to add late insurance for the Express.

Baum drew the loss for Wells, turning aside 17-of-19 shots on net that she faced. Alyssa Kaye turned aside the lone Wells shot on goal, fired by freshman Taylor Brown (Clinton, N.Y.) who recorded both of her team's shots on the afternoon.

Wells returns to action Sunday, Oct. 20 as they face-off against the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Berks in a 2:00 p.m. road contest.
