'On This Day' Wilson and Petersen Propel Women’s Soccer Team to Playoff Upset Win

'On This Day' is a Wells College Athletics feature series taking a look back on events that occurred on this day, Nov. 6, twelve years ago in 2008.

Michaela Wilson had two goals and Claire Petersen finished with 11 saves as No. 6 Wells College upset No. 3 D'Youville College 3-2 in the NEAC Championship Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, in Buffalo, NY.

D'Youville scored just a minute into the game on a goal by Shannon Glynn who connected on a crossing pass from Stephanie Lozzi to give D'Youville a 1-0 lead.

Wilson would tie the game for Wells in the 20th minute on an unassisted goal and would later score the game-winning goal on breakaway in the 58th minute to give the Express a 3-2 lead.

Emily Lotkowictz also tallied a goal in the game for Wells that gave the Express its first lead of the contest at 2-1 about eight minutes after Wilson's first goal had tied the contest at 1-1.

Wells will advance to the NEAC semifinals on Saturday, November 8th against No. 2 SUNY Cobleskill at 2:00 pm.
