OT Winner Powers Express to First Conference Win in 2021

The Wells College women's soccer team began United East conference play with a 2-1 OT comeback win over visiting Gallaudet University on Saturday, Sept. 18.

The win was the first for Wells College women's soccer coach Patrick Arancio, who begins his conference career at 1-0.

The Bison opened the scoring in the 61st minute and it appeared that goal would stand until Mackenzie Powers tied the contest in the final 90 seconds.

Lydia Thomas netted the game-winner in the third minute of overtime with an assist from Ericka Arancio.

Wells goalkeeper Jennifer McCumber continued her outstanding play with six saves on seven shots. Combined with her previous start, she now has 25 saves on 28 shots for an 89 percent save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against average.

The Express outshot Gallaudet by a 14-12 margin, but trailed Gallaudet in corners by an 8-7 margin.

Wells next attempts to go 2-0 in conference play by hosting St. Mary's (Md.) on Sunday, Sept. 19 with a 2 p.m. start.
