Women’s Volleyball Team’s Win Streak Stopped at Three

The Wells College women's volleyball team traveled to Williamsport, Penn. for a North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader against host Penn College and Penn State-Berks on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The Express entered the day on a two-match win streak after a pair of road wins against Lancaster Bible College and SUNY Oswego last Wednesday and Saturday.

Wells increased its win streak to three games after opening play against Penn College with a 3-1 win. The Express dropped the third set, but not before taking the first two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-20. Wells rebounded from the third-set loss with a convincing 25-15 fourth-set victory to seal the match.

Against Penn, Jackie Allen led the team in kills with 17 and Jazzmyne Williams added 10. Lorissa Parks led the team in digs with 15 and co-led the team in assists with 18 and had three aces. Jordan Stoops also had 18 assists while adding a half-dozen aces. Gabby Rivera registered 13 digs and had five assists, while Maritza Scharoun led the team in blocks with three.

The Express could not improve its win streak to four matches after Penn State-Berks took the matinee match against Wells. Each of the three sets were decided by four points or less.

Against the Nittany Lions, Williams led the attack with 14 kills with a dozen coming from Allen. Stoops had a team-high 17 assists and Scharoun added four blocks. Rivera had a team-high 21 digs, while Allen and Nanako Otsuka each recorded a dozen digs. Otsuka also had eight kills while Parks added 13 assists.

The Wells College women's volleyball team next travels to Cazenovia College on Tuesday, Oct. 29 with a 7 p.m. start before concluding the regular season next weekend with a pair of non-conference matchups.
