Men’s Soccer Team Opens Conference Play with OT Loss

The Wells College men's soccer team hosted Gallaudet University for its first-ever United East contest on Saturday, Sept. 18.

The Express got off to a good start when Zaki Javed put Wells in front by a 1-0 score just past the midway part of the first half.

Gallaudet tied the contest in the 52nd minute to take the game to overtime. In the first extra session and in the final minute, the Bison got the winner.

Both Javed and Nathan Soliman led the Wells' offensive attack with a pair of shots on goal each.

Defensively, Wells keeper Colton Jaquith kept the Express in the game and registered more than twice the number of saves than his Bison counterpart. Jaquith finished the contest with 13 saves including one in OT and had solid support from his teammates Quinten Battle, Justin Butler and Shane Syms, who each recorded defensive saves in the contest.

Wells next hosts St. Mary's (Md.) in another United East match tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 19 with a 12 p.m. start.
