Nettles Elevates Women's Volleyball To DH Sweep

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – Junior Vashti Nettles (Long Beach, Calif.) registered 27 kills and only made three errors across two matches as the Wells College women's volleyball team posted back-to-back 3-0 victories against Morrisville State College and SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday at Cazenovia College. After the wins, the Express have won six-straight matches and improve to 12-6 overall and to 5-1 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. 

Wells defeated Morrisville State by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-20 before blanking SUNY Cobleskill in straight sets (25-18, 25-13 and 25-9). The Express remain in the midst of their best season in program history, having secured five conference victories in six total matches, and have won nine of their previous 10 matches dating back to Sept. 13. 

Hitting .585 on the afternoon, Nettles racked up 27 kills and made only three errors on 41 total attacks. In the opener, Nettles posted a single match program record .619 hitting percentage against Morrisville State and concluded the day by hitting at a .550 clip in the final match versus SUNY Cobleskill. 

Against Morrisville State, Nettles' 14 kills alongside only one error in 21 attacks led the team. Freshman Eliza Schwab (Hartland, N.Y.) set up 34 of her team's 42 kills while classmate Olyvia Brazier (Stony Brook, N.Y.) contributed with 17 digs defensively. Senior Jessilyn Artaho-Aki (Kapa'a, Hawaii) had a strong overall game for Wells, posting 14 kills and adding five digs defensively. Sophomore Meredith Kadjeski (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) registered three service aces to round out the top performers. 

Nettles posted a team-best 13 kills against SUNY Cobleskill while junior Taryn Heath (Truxton, N.Y.) set up 34-of-35 kills for the Express. Defensively, junior Nicole Loeven (Pawling, N.Y.) led the team with 11 digs while Kadjeski picked up four more service aces, giving her seven on the afternoon without a single service error. 

The Express return to action Sunday, Oct. 5 as they battle the SUNY Institute of Technology before playing the host Wildcats of Cazenovia College to conclude the second NEAC Crossover Weekend of the season.
