Women's Volleyball Splits Matches To Open 2017 Season

The Wells College women's volleyball team began its 2017 season with a win and a loss on the opening day of the Scranton Invitational. In the opening match of the afternoon, the host Scranton Royals defeated Wells in three sets. The Express came back to win in three sets on Friday evening against New Jersey City University. In Saturday's action, Wells will take on the College of Saint Elizabeth and Shenandoah University.

During the match against New Jersey City, Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo surpassed the 1,000 milestone in career digs, and became the program's all-time leader in digs.

Scranton 3, Wells 0

Set scores were 25-15, 25-17, 25-19 in favor of the Royals. Wells hit .040 for the match and Scranton had a .304 hitting percentage. Olyvia Brazier and Jackie Allen led Wells with nine kills each. Eliza Schwab had 21 assists. Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo led the Express with 16 digs. Brazier and Rachel Anderson each served two aces. Anderson had one solo block.

Wells 3, New Jersey City 0

Wells bounced back to win in straight sets 25-14, 25-23, 25-18. The Express had 14 kills and no errors in the first set for a .519 hitting percentage. In the second set, Wells used an 8-3 run to build a 20-15 advantage and held on to close it out. In the third set, Wells served up four aces and completed the sweep.

Rachel Anderson and Olyvia Brazier both had four aces in the win over New Jersey City, and Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo and Eliza Schwab each had seven digs. Schwab had 22 assists, distributed among a balanced lineup of hitters. Brazier had seven kills, Jackie Allen had six, and Anderson and Schwab had five each.
