All-Conference Honors For Women's Volleyball

Five members of the Wells College women's volleyball program were recognized with post-season awards and honors as the North Eastern Athletic Conference announced its all-conference teams and major awards for the 2017 season. Freshman outside hitter Rachel Anderson was NEAC Rookie of the Year and head coach Mark Lucas was named NEAC Coach of the Year. Anderson and senior libero/outside hitter Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo were NEAC First Team selections. Senior setter Eliza Schwab was on the NEAC Second Team and junior middle hitter Amanda Springer earned All-NEAC Third Team.

Anderson, a freshman from St. Louis, Mo., is the first player for Wells to earn NEAC Rookie of the Year honors since teammate Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo earned the award following the 2014 season. Anderson was also voted to the All-NEAC First Team. In NEAC matches Anderson ranked third in the conference in kills, fourth in kills per set, seventh in hitting percentage (.277), fifth in points, eighth in points per set, and was in the top 15 in solo blocks, block assists, and blocks per set. She was NEAC Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 17.

Lucas is in his second year as head coach of the Wells College women's volleyball program. He led the team to consecutive playoff appearances. In 2017, Wells won the NEAC North Division with a perfect 6-0 record against divisional opponents. In team statistical categories, Wells leads the NEAC in kills, assists, and digs. In his two years as head coach, Lucas has led the women's volleyball team to a 38-23 overall record.

Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo, a senior from Hilo, Hawaii, earned all-conference recognition for the fourth year in a row. She was voted by league coaches to the All-NEAC First Team. She was a First Team selection in 2016, a Third Team honoree in 2015 and a Second Team selection in 2014. As a freshman in 2014, Leite-Ah Yo was NEAC Rookie of the Year, and as a sophomore in 2015 she was NEAC Defensive Player of the Year. In 2017, she ranked second in total digs, fifth in digs per set, and sixth in service aces among NEAC players. She is the team captain and was named NEAC Defensive Player of the Week for the weeks ending Sept. 17 and Oct. 1.

Eliza Schwab, a senior from Hartland, N.Y., earned her first-career all-conference award as she was voted to the NEAC Second Team. The setter led the conference in assists and assists per set. Among NEAC setters, she was also third in total blocks and blocks per set. She became the first player in Wells program history to reach the 3,000 career assists milestone.

Amanda Springer, a junior from Norwood, Mass., earned her first-career all-conference honor. In conference play, Springer ranked second in hitting percentage (.377) and was one of only two players to hit over .300 with at least 1.75 kills per set. She was also fourth in block assists, ninth in total blocks, and fourteenth in blocks per set.

Wells finished first in the NEAC North Division and won a NEAC quarterfinal playoff match against SUNY Poly on Tuesday. The Express carries a 19-12 overall record into this weekend's NEAC Championships at Penn State Berks. Wells will face Morrisville State College on Saturday, Nov. 4 at noon.
