Wells Baseball Team’s First Win Streak Halted

The Wells College baseball team entered the contest against visiting Utica College with a two-game win streak on Wednesday, March 17. The first half of the game saw both teams trade runs with scores of 2-1 after one inning and 5-3 after five innings, before the Pioneers put a string of runs together between innings 6-8 to take a 13-3 final to snap Wells' victory string.

As Wells gets closer to conference play, the coaching staff got a more in-depth look at its roster with 19 players seeing action against Utica.

Wells' first three starting batters all recorded at least one hit and one run that included Max Odum (Elmira, N.Y.), Zack Odum (Elmira, N.Y.) and Dylan Nolan (Brick, N.J.). Max Odum had the best outing of that trio with three hits on the day and he and Nolan recorded extra-base hits for the Express. Wells also got a single hit from Julian Kemp (Ithaca, N.Y.).

Starting pitcher Austin Jordan (Kane, Pa.) faced 15 of Utica's 39 batters and allowed five hits and three runs over four innings of work. Luke Eitner (N. Lehigh, Pa.) finished the game on the mound in impressive fashion after working one inning and striking out two. Between Jordan and Eitner, four other pitchers saw action from the hill and included Ben Beratta (Marcellus, N.Y.), Jack Field (Bethlehem, N.Y.), Chase Sebastian (Eldred, Pa.) and Joe Matala (Schenectady, N.Y.).

The 3-3 Express next take the field on Sunday, March 21 in a doubleheader against visiting Hilbert College with the first game scheduled for 1 p.m.
