Baseball Team Sets Season Highs Heading into Conference Play

Aurora, N.Y. – The Wells College baseball team wrapped up a nine-game home stand in impressive fashion with a 13-3 victory over visiting Clarks Summit University on Tuesday, March 23, as the team prepares for its first conference games this weekend. The Express scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back.

The win extended the Express' win streak to three games and set highs in runs and hits for the season. Wells improved its single game season runs and hits totals by one. Wells' previous best run total was a dozen – achieved twice this season against St. Lawrence University and Cazenovia College. The Express plated 17 hits on the day, again eclipsing its previous best of 16 on opening day against the Wildcats.

Justin Colindres (Clifton, N.J.) hit his first collegiate homerun with a 2-RBI blast in the fifth inning that made it a 10-1 game. For the day, the freshman finished with a pair of extra base hits, a pair of runs, a pair of RBIs and a stolen base.

Derek Shea (West Kingston, R.I.) and Aaron Izquierdo (Palisades Park, N.J.) had a team-best three hits each and the pair traded team leads in RBI and runs with Shea notching three RBIs and Izquierdo crossing the plate three times.

In addition to Colindres, Max Odum (Elmira, N.Y.) and Dylan Nolan (Brick, N.J.) also registered a pair of hits each with the latter getting one extra-base hit. Of the solo hitters, three recorded doubles that included Jordan VanHerpe (Liverpool, N.Y.), Zack Odum (Elmira, N.Y.) and Julian Kemp (Ithaca, N.Y.). Joe Horne (Hicksville, N.Y.) and Evan Ecker (Buffalo, N.Y.) rounded out the hit parade with one hit each.

Behind Shea in the RBI category with a pair each was VanHerpe, Colindres and Max Odum. Single RBIs went to Nolan, Kemp and Zack Odum.

Behind Izquierdo's three runs with a pair each was VanHerpe, Colindres and both Odums. Single runs went to Ecker and Nolan.

Chase Sebastian (Eldred, Pa.) earned his first win of the season from the hill after throwing 7 1/3 innings and allowing five hits with a half-dozen strikeouts. Jack Field (Bethlehem, N.Y.) came in relief with no hits and two strikeouts over 1 2/3 innings.

The 6-3 Express next travel to Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, March 27 for a conference doubleheader slated for a 12 p.m. start.
