Women’s Volleyball Silenced In NEAC Pool Play

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Despite five players tallying 10 digs on the afternoon, the Wells College women's volleyball team dropped both ends of Saturday's North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader. Wells posted a 3-0 loss against the Wildcats of SUNY Institute of Technology to open play before battling the Mustangs of Morrisville State College to a 3-1 defeat. Wells is 3-13 overall on the season and falls to 1-4 in league play following the losses on Saturday.

Versus the conference-leading Wildcats of SUNY Institute of Technology, Wells was set down in order by set scores of 15-25, 13-25 and 12-25. The Wildcats improved to 19-1 overall in the conference following the victory over Wells.

Kadjeski led the way with 15 kills in the first match, committing only six errors for a .243 hitting percentage. Sophomore Zakarra Butts (Cortland, N.Y.) posted six kills in eight total attacks for a .750 hitting percentage while classmate Gina Cairns (Delhi, N.Y.) notched two. Setter Taryn Heath (Truxton, N.Y.) assisted 19 of her team's 23 kills. Defensively, libero Nadine Pershyn (Buffalo, N.Y.) contributed 10 her team's 31 digs – all nine Wells players in the match recorded at least one dig.

For SUNYIT, the Wildcats posted 43 kills against only five errors for a .437 hitting percentage. Kaitlyn Harrington made 13 kills in 21 attacks without committing an attack error. Hanne Saarinen equaled Harrington's kill totals while Taviot Jackowski assisted 35 of her team's 43 kills. Defensively, Saarinen led the way with 10 digs while Jackowski recorded eight.

Wells was able to claim a 25-23 victory in the second set, but the Mustangs of Morrisville State College were able to battle back and claim the four set victory via scores of 21-25, 25-23, 23-25 and 18-25. For the Express, Kadjeski had 18 of her team's 34 kills while Butts again contributed four kills while recording zero errors. Heath assisted 22-of-34 kills while libero Nicole Loeven (Pawling, N.Y.) scooped up a team-best 12 digs in four sets.

For Morrisville State, Tiffany Jones Maxwell hit a combined .455 across the four sets, hammering home 13 kills in 22 total attack attempts. Erika Bailey assisted 30 of her team's 41 total kills while four players posted double-digit dig totals for the hosts – Kylie Murphy led all players with 21 digs defensively.

Kadjeski's 18 kills in the second set are the second-most ever by an individual in the modern era of Wells women's volleyball. In addition, her 64 attack attempts in one game are a modern-day record as well.

Wells returns to action Sunday, Oct. 6 as they face-off against Cazenovia College and SUNY Cobleskill to wrap up NEAC Pool Play this weekend on the campus of Morrisville State College. The first match against Cazenovia kicks off at 10:00 a.m.
