Softball Award Winners and Seniors Honored at 46th Annual Banquet

The Wells College athletics department along with top college administrators announced Spring award winners for each team from the 2021 season through a live virtual show on Tuesday, May 4 at Phipps Hall. Also honored were top academic teams and individuals, Chi Alpha Sigma members and seniors.

The softball team announced the following awards:

Rooke of the Year: Serina Sheradin

Express Award: Brittney Meade

MVP: Jenna Devora

The event began and ended with inspiring words from Wells College Director of Athletics and Physical Education Mike Lindberg.

Wells College President Jonathan Gibralter joined the awards ceremony with a personal message and reflection on the challenges of the past year due to the nationwide pandemic.

Provost and Dean of the College, Dr. Cindy Speaker announced the women's lacrosse and field hockey teams as the 2020-2021 Team Academic Achievement Award winners. Dr. Speaker also announced the Kathryn S. Maloney Scholar-Athlete Awards. The Maloney awards are given to the male and female members of the senior class who participated on a varsity team for a minimum of three seasons and have exemplified academic excellence at Wells College. Aaron Connolly was the men's recipient, while Mollie Walts was the women's recipient.

Provost Speaker also announced this year's inductees to Chi Alpha Sigma, a national organization that recognizes student-athletes from accredited four-year institutions who excel in both the classroom and competition. In order to be inducted, a student-athlete must attend a four-year accredited college or university that is a member of the NCAA, NAIA, or NCCAA. The honoree also must achieve at least junior academic standing by the fifth semester or seventh quarter, as determined by the certifying institution, and must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of a 3.4.

The 15 new inductees included:

Inductees into Chi Alpha Sigma - Class of 2021 included: Alexis Huff (Soccer and Swimming), Calia Ortega (Soccer), Brittney Meade (Softball), Nikki Michaud (Field Hockey), Jessica Boeheim (Swimming), Nicole D'Aurizio (Swimming), Mackenzie Powers (Soccer and Lacrosse), Christian Hahn (Volleyball), Justin Dude (Lacrosse), Danielle Radivoy (Field Hockey and Lacrosse), Abigail Carroll (Soccer), Jordan Jacobs (Soccer and Basketball), Kevin Spaeth (Baseball), Tori Miller (Softball) and Maeghan Westmiller (Soccer).

Returning Chi Alpha Sigma Class of 2020 included: Aaron Connolly (Swimming), Ian Crawford (Baseball), Derek Shea (Baseball) and Mollie Walts (Lacrosse).

Seniors were also honored and included: Henry Albert, Michael Bove, Aaron Connolly, Ian Crawford, Jenna Devora, Justin Dude,  Alisa Hines, Jordan Jacobs, Zach Kemp, Brittney Meade, Dylan Nolan, Gabby Sawyer, Maritza Scharoun, Kevin Schrank, Derek Shea, Kevin Spaeth, Trevor Stein, Jared Strait, Jeanna Swift, Isaac Thomas, Jordan VanHerpe, Mollie Walts and Maeghan Westmiller.
