Express Endure Early Morning Woes, Lose 2 vs Carlow in Windy Climate

AURORA, NY - Wells and Carlow met bright and early on Saturday morning as they underwent an important AMCC series with a first pitch that took place at approximately 9:50 AM. For Carlow, a team jockeying with Hilbert for the last AMCC Playoff position, 2 wins was a must for this road trip to Central New York. The Express were hoping to play spoiler and cause some setbacks for the Celtics squad. In the end, Wells fell on a windy morning atop the turf by scores of 15-3 and 13-1.

The Express were bogged down all morning by errors and unfortunately timed hits, scoring a 3-spot in the 3rd inning of game 1, but failing to muster any more offense for the majority of the 2 outings.

Christa Koagel had a notable game 1 for the Express, going 2-for-2 and notching 2 RBI on a huge double down the right field line in the 3rd frame of the first matchup. Koagel was inches from another multi-RBI knock in game 2, but saw her shot go just foul after the wind picked up heavily in the rematch.

Natalie Day also managed to log multiple hits during the 2-game set.

Unpredictable bounces wounded the Express all of game 2, with many bobbles resulting in extra bases for the Celtic runners.

As game 2 pushed on, the windy conditions became more fierce, an added variable that Carlow used to their advantage, routinely hitting balls into the heart of the gusts, frustrating the Wells fielders.

After all was said and done, Carlow took the sweep, moving to 8-6 in the AMCC and giving themselves a lead in the race for the final AMCC playoff spot. The Express will have a couple more shots at AMCC victories as they travel to Pitt. - Bradford next week before returning home in their final series of the 2024 season next weekend against Penn State Altoona.
