Women's Volleyball Remains Perfect In NEAC Play

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's volleyball team exited North Eastern Athletic Conference play this past weekend with two conference victories, running their overall league record to 6-0 (10-7 overall) following a thrilling 3-2 win over Gallaudet University and a 3-0 shutout of Keuka College on Saturday.

The Express defeated Gallaudet, winners of five-straight NEAC Championships entering the 2015 season, for the first time in team history (four matches) before posting a straight-set win against Keuka to conclude the crossover weekend. The preseason favorites, Gallaudet wrapped up the weekend with a record of 11-5 (5-1 NEAC) while Keuka exits play with an overall mark of 4-12 (2-4 NEAC).

Wells defeated Gallaudet via set scores of 25-14, 18-25, 25-21, 14-25 and 15-13. The victors were led by junior Meredith Kadjeski's (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) 12 kills. Sophomore Eliza Schwab (Hartland, N.Y.) set up 28 of her team's 45 kills while junior Nadine Pershyn (Buffalo, N.Y.) led the way with 16 digs defensively.

Senior Vashti Nettles (Long Beach, Calif.) posted 11 kills of her own against the Bison while Brazier added 10 kills herself. Brazier's three service aces led the team and she narrowly missed a double-double, posting nine digs defensively. The team's nine total blocks were the second-most ever in a single match.

Versus Keuka, Wells easily captured the straight-set victory via scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-14. Nettles posted 13 kills for Wells, committing only two errors for a .440 attacking percentage, the fourth-best mark of her career (min. 20 attempts). Kadjeski continued her stellar play with nine kills and only one error for a .381 attacking percentage while Pershyn and Schwab each posted nine digs defensively.

Collectively, Wells racked up 33 kills and committed only nine attacking errors against the Wolfpack. The team also combined for 36 digs defensively.

Wells will take on the host Spartans from D'Youville College before playing Westminster (Pa.) this Saturday, Oct. 10 in back-to-back non-conference matches beginning at 12 p.m.
