Women's Volleyball Silenced By Ithaca, 3-0

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Wells College women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 loss to Ithaca College on Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Express fall to 17-9 overall on the year while the host Bombers move to 26-3 on the season after the non-conference match.

Ithaca cruised to the straight-set victory via scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-23.

Sophomore Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo (Hilo, Hawaii) led Wells with 10 kills, narrowly missing a double-double with nine digs. Sophomore Eliza Schwab (Hartland, N.Y.) set up a team-best 23 kills and recorded a team-best 13 digs defensively. Senior Vashti Nettles (Long Beach, Calif.) posted nine kills with only two attacking errors while junior Meredith Kadjeski (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) hammered home eight kills on 16 errorless attacks.

Ithaca led the Express by an 18-14 margin in the first set, but racked up six-straight points against Wells down the stretch to capture set point. Wells answered with a Leite-Ah Yo kill, but Hailey Adler took advantage of an Express blocking error to take the early 1-0 lead in the match.

Trailing 9-7 in the second set, the Express allowed the Bombers to capture seven of the matches' next eight points, allowing Ithaca to take a 16-8 lead before forcing a Wells timeout. A brief Wells rally was extinguished late in the set as Ithaca, leading 20-15, rattled off five-straight points to take the second set by a 25-15 margin.

Wells and Ithaca battled to an 18-18 tie in the third set, but two-straight Express attacking errors swung the match in favor of the Bombers. A kill from Kadjeski at match point for Ithaca brought Wells to within one at 24-23, but a kill from Kayla Gromen sent the bombers to their 26th victory of the year.

Ithaca posted 46 total kills in Tuesday's match, committing only nine attacking errors. The Bombers were led by 12 kills from Adler. Gromen set up 34 of her team's kills while Dylan Gawinski-Stern scooped up 13 digs on defense.

Wells returns to the court this Saturday, Oct. 31 as they take on non-conference SUNY Canton and the host Highlanders from Houghton College starting at 1 p.m.
