Cedar Crest Holds Off Wells Field Hockey Comeback

The Wells College field hockey team was edged 3-2 by visiting Cedar Crest College on Sunday, Sept. 10 at the Wells Turf Field. Kelly Mason and Kate Wells scored for the Express.

Cedar Crest opened the scoring 10 minutes into the game as Hannah Gouck scored on an assist from Annalise Unger. Wells came back and tied the score just before halftime as Kelly Mason scored off a penalty corner on a shot from inside the top of the circle.

The game was tied 1-1 for a short while, as Cedar Crest added another goal by Gouck before halftime. Cedar Crest led 2-1 after the first half.

The Falcons added a third goal in the 44th minute, scored by Brice Gardner.

Wells scored in the 59th minute as Mason assisted on a close-range goal for Kate Wells.

Wells goalkeeper Allison Solomon made 11 saves. Katherine Pryor had three defensive saves for Wells.

Cedar Crest is 2-1 on the season, and Wells is 0-5. The Express is on the road Wednesday, Sept. 13 at Oneonta.
