KEUKA TAKES TWO FROM EXPRESS

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College softball team had their four game winning streak snapped as the Keuka College Storm swept an afternoon double-header between the two clubs 7-1 and 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon in Aurora. With the loss the Express fall to 4-2 (0-2 NEAC), while the Storm improve to 2-0 (2-0 NEAC).

Alyssa Acquaviva (New Hartford, N.Y.) paced the Express offense in game one finishing 2-2 with two walks while Shannon Blanford (Fayetteville, N.Y.) finished 1-3 with one run scored. Lorelei Meier (Caledonia, N.Y.) suffered the loss on the mound tossing a complete game, allowing seven earned runs on ten hits while striking out four.

The Storm jumped on the board with one run in the first inning and plated three more in the second to take a 4-0 lead. The Express responded in the bottom half of the third inning as Blanford shot a liner down the right field line, stole second, and then moved to third on error at first base to put runners at the corners with nobody out. Keuka buckled down, striking out the next Wells hitter while throwing out Meier on a steal attempt to earn the first two outs, however, Acquaviva delivered a two out RBI single to center plating Blanford to pull the Express to within three (4-1).

Keuka plated one more in the fifth and two more in the top of the seventh while the defense held strong, holding the Express scoreless through the final three innings to earn the victory.

In game two, Keuka starter Brooke Lovell spun a gem, scattering three hits while striking out seven Express hitters to earn the victory. Express starter Aly Mann (Walden, N.Y.) was equal to the task through the first three innings but the Storm scored two in the fourth, one in the fifth and sixth, and two more in the seventh to earn the victory. Mann tossed six innings allowing three earned runs while striking out eight in the loss.

Acquaviva, Mann, and Paige Stone all collected one hit apiece to lead the Express.

Wells returns to action when the take on SUNY Cobleskill in a NEAC double-header scheduled for 1 pm and 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in Cobleskill, N.Y.
