Women’s Volleyball Team Splits on the Road

The Wells College volleyball team finished the day at 1-1 at Misericordia University on Sept. 11. The Express beat John Jay College and fell to host Misericordia in the afternoon matinee.

Against John Jay, the Express dropped a close first set by a 25-23 score but rallied to take the next three sets with a pair of 25-20 set wins and one 25-19 set win.  Although the team dropped its match against Misericordia, the team did what it did in its previous start last Tuesday at Medaille with improvement in each consecutive set in points. This time the Express started with a 16-point set, moved to 17 points in the second set and capped the match with 22 points.

Lexi Carfi led the Express in at least three categories in each contest. In the victory over John Jay, Carfi had team highs in assist with 17, points with 12, kills with seven and service aces with four. Against Misericordia, Carfi had nine assists, seven points and three aces.

Roosa Armstead-Lehti also had a solid performance defensively for the Express with 20 digs against John Jay and 16 against Misericordia.

Other top players in the win were Isabella Ciancio with a hitting percentage of .400 and five kills. Makenzie Drown and Tori Sanders combined for 7 blocks with Drown registering a pair of solo blocks and Sanders with three block assists.

Against Misericordia, Sanders had a team-high .429 hitting percentage with four kills, while Caroline Barr had team-highs in kills with five and also had 10 digs.

Wells next travels to Cazenovia College for a 7 p.m. start on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
