2021 Express Women's Volleyball Season Recap

The Wells Express women's volleyball team was back in the swing of things for the 2021 Fall season!

The Express were road warriors this year as they played 7 home matches and 14 road matches on the season. 

"We have a young team, this season was a great learning experience for them. We're going to continue to work in the off-season and come back next year and bring the experiences from this year with us." Coach Mark Lucas. 

The Express started the season on a bit of a losing streak. Dropping 3 straight road games to Alfred State, Kings College, and Mt. St. Mary's all by a score of 3-0. The Express were able to bounce back when they secured their first win of the season at Hilbert College on September 4th. The Express were in control of the match the entire way and were able to close out Hilbert in 3 straight sets. After 2 more losses, the second win of the season for the express was secured when they visited John Jay College where they defeated the bloodhounds 3-1. The home-court proved to be more successful for the Express shown by the higher winning percentage they had at home compared to the road. They went on to secure 5 more wins on the season against Cazenovia, Medaille, Elmira, Hilbert, and Penn College. Unfortunately, the Express finished off the season on a 7 game losing streak eliminating them from any hopes of post-season contention.

Some bright spots on the season were first-year student Roosa Armstead-Lehti who lead the team in digs (398). Armstead-Lehti also broke the Wells College record of most digs in a single set with 36 against Penn College! Caroline Barr leads the Express in kills with 146 total and Lexi Carfi leads the Express in kills per set with 1.98. Also, Sasha Lamoree leads the Express in assists per set at 4.44. 

Express Women's Volleyball will return in 2022!
