Women’s Volleyball Team Goes the Distance at Cazenovia

The Wells College women's volleyball traveled to Cazenovia College for a non-conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 14.

With the match going the distance, Cazenovia rallied after trailing two sets-to-one to take the last two. The Express did not go down quietly with the final two sets extended to extra points to decide a winner.

After dropping the opening set by a 25-18 score, Wells rallied with two decisive set wins by scores of 25-16 and 26-17. In the fourth set, the Wildcats pulled out a 26-24 win and then in the fifth and deciding set, edged Wells by an 18-16 score.

Despite the 3-2 final in Wells' first five-set match of the 2021 fall season, the Express outscored Cazenovia overall by a 108-102 score.

Roosa Armstead-Lehti led all players on the court with 29 digs. Caroline Barr finished with a team-high eight kills. Lexi Carfi and Makenzie Drown led the team in a pair of categories each. Carfi tied Barr with eight kills and had 13 assists, while Drown finished with five aces and three blocks.

The women's volleyball team heads to Buffalo this weekend for the Bengal Challenge at Buffalo State College. The Express start play against Alfred State on Friday, Sept. 17, followed by a pair of games on Saturday, Sept. 18 against Cazenovia and host Buffalo State.
