Field Hockey Team Gets Defensive in Final Three Quarters

The Wells College field hockey team got back to action for the first time since 2019 with its last appearance in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (now United East Conference) Championship game. A lot has changed in the past two years with the Express sporting almost an entirely new team with just two members from that 2019 team.

The Express had a tall order in its first game back as they hosted SUNY Geneseo, a team that appeared in the National Field Hockey Coaches Associations' D-III National Poll just the day before.

The Knights took advantage of a new team finding its way in the first quarter with five tallies, but after that the team settled down and averaged just one goal allowed in the final three quarters that included just a single tally over the game's final 26 minutes.

Wells goalkeeper Samya Anderson-Victor made several outstanding saves and finished the contest with a total of 19.

Wells next travels to SUNY Oswego on Saturday, Sept. 4 with a 6 p.m. start against the Lakers.
