Field Hockey Team Gets OT Win on Senior Day

The Wells College field hockey team hosted Medaille College on Sunday, Oct. 17 in the third contest of a four-game homestead at the Wells Turf Field.

For the second time in as many days, the Express got out to a 1-0 lead after Hannah Koerner scored in the 14th minute with an assist from Lauren Spiegel.

The visiting Mavericks tied the game before the half and took a late 2-1 lead with 6:32 remaining.

In the final minute of regulation play, Spiegel forced overtime with just 48 seconds left on the clock. Again, the duo of Koerner and Spiegel combined on the game-tying scoring play with Koerner earning an assist.

Spiegel completed the come-from-behind win with an OT tally 5:38 into the extra session and finished the day with a pair of goals and an assist. The sophomore also accounted for nearly half of Wells' shots with nine of the team's 19.

Wells goalkeeper Samya Anderson-Victor finished with 10 saves on the day for her eighth double-digit save performance of the season that left her two saves shy of 150 for the season. She also helped Wells counter a 10-5 edge in penalty corners for Medaille.

Prior to the game, Wells honored Danielle Radivoy and Kayla Rowell as the team's seniors. Wells Coach Jessica Galatioto earned her first Wells field hockey coaching win.

Wells continues its homestand with a contest against SUNY Brockport on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m.
