COBLESKILL HANDS EXPRESS LOSS

Aurora, N.Y.–  Shane Francis (Akwesasne Territory/Salmon River) finished with six goals and three assists as the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers men's lacrosse team defeated the Wells College Express 17-7 in North Eastern Athletic Conference action on Friday afternoon in Aurora, N.Y. With the loss the Express fall to 1-6 (1-1 NEAC), while the Cobleskill improves to 4-5 (2-0 NEAC).

Kylan Hallett (Basom, N.Y./Akron Central) led Wells with three goals, while David Kaus (Erie, Pa./N.W. PA) and Dan Munsell (Doylestown, Pa./Central Buck West) chipped in with two goals each to lead the Express. Kyle Brimm (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) finished with 17 saves in the loss.

Both squads played a hard first quarter, scoring a combined 10 goals, as the Express ended up on the short side, 6-4, after the first. The Fighting Tigers defense stepped up in the second quarter allowing no goals on seven shots, while Steve Hughes (Wallkill, N.Y./Wallkill) netted three goals in the quarter as Cobleskill extended their lead to seven, 11-4.

The Fighting Tigers continued to pour it on in the second half, finding the back of the cage six more times, cruising to the 10 goal victory. Hughes finished with four goals, Matt Pellegrini (Copiague, N.Y./Copiague) added four, while Chris Keller (Wallkill, N.Y./Wallkill), Brian Murphy (Cross River, N.J./John Jay), and Chris Matkowicki (Staatsburg, N.Y./FD Roosevelt) tallied a goal apiece. Tom Knezick (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) earned the win in net with six saves.

The Express return to action tomorrow against NEAC rival Keuka College at 2:00 p.m. in Aurora, N.Y.
