Men’s Lacrosse Team’s Rally Falls Short

The Wells College men's lacrosse team found themselves trailing host Medialle College by a 6-1 score late in the first quarter, but gained momentum with a last-second first quarter tally by Jacob Stine (North Tonawanda, N.Y.). From that point until the half, Wells kept even with Medaille with each team netting four goals.

The Express dominated the second half and outscored Medaille by a 6-2 margin, but it wasn't enough as the Mavericks took the contest by a 13-11 final on Saturday, May 1.

Quinten Battle (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) and Stine provided most of the offense and combined for nine of the team's 11 goals. Battle finished with five, while Stine tallied four. Mikey Petrina (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Trevor Stein (Spencerport, N.Y.) had the other goals for the Express, with the latter adding a pair of helpers. Shane Syms (Scranton, Pa.) also had a pair of assists while Justin Dude (Hilton, N.Y.) and Dan Stevens (Williamsville, N.Y.) had single assists on the day.

The Wells offense has been impressive in its last two starts with a combined 23 goals with 17 collectively coming from the duo of Battle and Stine. Against Medaille, the offense held the edge in shots by a 39-34 margin.

Jeronimo Camou (Greenwich, N.Y.) registered eight saves in net and Benjamin McMonagle (Rome, N.Y.) had more than a third of the team's 23 groundballs with eight along with a pair of caused turnovers.

Battle collected three groundballs, while a pair each came from Stine, Dude, Syms, Stevens and Stein.
