WELLS MEN’S LACROSSE FALLS SHORT AGAINST ALVERNIA

Reading, Pa.– The Alvernia University men's lacrosse team (3-2) scored five unanswered goals in the second half and held on to defeat the Wells College Express (0-4) 11-7 on Sunday afternoon in Reading, Pa. Dan Hunt (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) led the Express with three goals, while Dan Munsell (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) tallied two goals and two assists in the loss. Robert Finnegan led Alvernia with four goals, while Drew Giberson finished with a game high five assists.

The Express owned the first quarter as goals by Hunt, Munsell, and Chris Burger (West Valley, N.Y./West Valley) gave Wells a 3-1 lead at quarter's end. Alvernia came battling back in the second, scoring three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead. The Express would answer back as Kylan Hallett (Basom, N.Y./Akron) scored just 44 seconds later to tie the game at four with 8:02 remaining, but Alvernia would take the lead before the break as Finnegan would find the back of the net on a feed from Giberson for the 5-4 lead that held through the end of the first half.

The Express wasted little time in the second half as Hunt tallied his seventh goal of the year from Hallett to tie the game at five, 55 seconds into the third quarter. The score would hold until Finnegan notched his third goal of the game, unassisted at 3:59 of the third, sparking five straight goals from Alvernia over the next 13 minutes, building a 10-5 lead the Express would never recover from.

Kyle Brimm (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) finished with 12 saves in the loss, while Hallett and Burger led the team with seven ground balls each.

Alvernia held a slight edge in shots 39-34, while both teams finished with 42 ground balls. Wells took advantage of their extra-man opportunities converting on 3 of 12, while holding Alvernia 0 for 7 on their extra-man opportunities.

The Express return to action on Sunday, March 21st against Mt. St. Vincent College at 1:00 p.m. in Aurora, N.Y.
