Men’s Lacrosse Team Gets Offensive in Home Finale

The Wells College men's lacrosse team exploded for its first double-digit offensive match of the season against visiting Penn College on Saturday, April 24.

The Express and the Wildcats battled during the opening 22 minutes that saw a combined 10 ties and lead changes. During that span, Wells took a 4-3 lead after the first quarter before falling behind by a couple of goals in the second. The Express rallied to tie the score for the final time in the game at 6-6, but Penn netted a dozen of the game's last 18 goals to take the contest by an 18-12 score.

Wells stayed within striking distance by getting within three goals on three separate occasions including the final time with about 12 minutes to go in the fourth quarter.

Jacob Stine (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Quinten Battle (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) led the offense with 11 points and 26 of the team's 40 shots. Stine finished with five goals and one assist from 14 shots, while Battle tallied three times with a pair of assists on a dozen shots. Trevor Stein (Spencerport, N.Y.) added a pair of goals from nine shots, and Mikey Petrina (Buffalo, N.Y.) also added a pair of goals to round out the Express goal scorers.

Wells finished with 27 groundballs with Justin Dude (Hilton, N.Y.) leading the way with a half-dozen, while four each coming from Battle, Stein, Shane Syms (Scranton, Pa.) and Jeronimo Camou (Greenwich, N.Y). Camou finished with a dozen saves from 30 Wildcat shots on net. Dude also registered a single assist as did Syms and Stein.

Defensively, Dude finished with five caused turnovers and Battle registered four, with the latter recording a team-high half-dozen faceoff wins and one more than Stein.

In a pregame ceremony, the men's lacrosse team honored its seniors and departing players that included Dude, Stein and Kevin Schrank (Baldwinsville, N.Y), with the latter finishing with a pair of groundballs.

The men's lacrosse team concludes its regular season next weekend on Saturday, May 1 at Medaille.
