Women's volleyball hosts final tri-match of the season

Wells College women's volleyball hosted SUNY Morrisville and Penn College for a tri-match this Saturday. The Mustangs took down the Express 3-0, but the Express knocked off the Wildcats 3-1.

The first-place Musangs presented the biggest challenge yet to the Express. SUNY Morrisville jumped out to a big lead and never looked back in the first allowing only 8 points for the Express to win 25-8. In the second set, Wells did their best to keep it close early falling behind by only two points, 9-7. The Mustangs then were able to take control and won the second set 25-14. The final set was much closer with the Express even holding a two-point lead over the Mustangs early, 9-6. Late in the set the Express were down 3 and Roosa Armstead-Lehti served 4 straight times to tie it up at 22 but the Mustangs would then score 3 straight points and sweep the Express, 3-0.

The Wildcats of Penn College were up next for the Express and it looked like the break between games took some of the energy out of the Express. Late serves from Brianah Dawson could not save the Express in the first set as they let the 2-14 Wildcats take the first set from them at home. The second set looked much more like the Express we know when they grabbed an early lead of 6-1. Sasha Lamoree had some great serves t help the Express build a lead and not look back taking the second set, 25-15. In the third set, the Express were down big early 10-3. We were able to battle back thanks to kills from Caroline Barr, Miah Williamson, and Makenzie Drown. The Match was tied at 16 and then the Express went on a 9-0 run to win the second set 25-16. Fatigue started to set in for the Wildcats in the third set as they let the Express go up 11-2 early. The Express never let up and a couple of ace serves from Miah Williamson put the Wildcats away for good, 25-13.

The Express acknowledged their seniors today, Makenzie Drown, Leah Gregory, Morgan Adams, and Sasha Lamoree. Thank you all for your dedication and hard work toward the Wells College women's volleyball program!

Volleyball will be back in action Wednesday at Elmira College.
