AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College softball team posted back-to-back losses to the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill on Monday. With the losses, Wells drops to 1-17 overall on the year while the North Eastern Athletic Conference North Division leading Fighting Tigers improve to 18-8 overall and to 16-4 within league play.

Wells was no-hit in the opening game of the doubleheader, falling by an 8-0 margin. In the second game of the afternoon, Wells carried a 3-2 lead into the top of the seventh inning but went on to lose by a 8-3 score after a six run top of the sixth inning for SUNY Cobleskill. The no-hitter was the first fired against the Express dating back to a 14-0 loss to Bowie State on Mar. 22, 2011.

Fighting Tigers pitcher Erin Wadsworth fired five complete innings, striking out nine batters and allowing only one free pass. Wells pitcher Taylor Spranger (Schenevus, N.Y.) was saddled with the loss, allowing eight earned runs across five innings of work.

In the second game of the afternoon, the Fighting Tigers built up a 2-0 lead through four innings. In the top of the second inning, Jessica DeVoe drove an RBI single up the middle to plate Julia Lull to place the visitors on the board first. In the fourth inning, a grounder by DeVoe snuck past the Wells second baseman to plate their second run of the game as Lull scored for the second time.

In the Wells half of the fourth inning, sophomore Karley Raczynski (Fonda, N.Y.) led off the inning with a double to right center field. Spranger followed with a single to right, placing runners on the corners. Raczynski scored with sophomore Kendrick Wilson (Collins, N.Y.) at the plate, crossing home on a wild pitch by Brianne Gray. A single by Lindsay Achzet (Johnstown, N.Y.) plated Spranger from second base after she advanced on the aforementioned wild pitch.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Wells took a 3-2 lead after junior Charlee Weidman (New Berlin, N.Y.) led off the inning with a booming double to left center field. Advancing to third on a ground out by senior Honey Bashir (Queens, N.Y.), Weidman reached home following an error by the shortstop after freshman Kenisha Flowers (Rochester, N.Y.) hit a rocket that was not fielded cleanly.

Wells was unable to lock down the victory in the top of the seventh inning as six runs scored off of six hits and two errors. Ultimately, DeVoe finished with a 3-for-4 day at the plate while driving in two runs. SUNY Cobleskill ultimately picked up 11 hits in 31 total at-bats while the Express finished the game 4-for-26.

Gray started the game and allowed three runs in four-plus innings of work, striking out five batters before yielding to Wadsworth. In two and two-thirds innings of work, Wadsworth struck out six batters and allowed two walks to the Express.

In a pre-game ceremony, the team's three major award winners at the Athletic Awards Banquet were honored. Sophomore Kendrick Wilson (Collins, N.Y.) won the team's Express Award while Spranger picked up Rookie of the Year honors. Achzet was tabbed as the team's Most Valuable Player following her strong sophomore campaign in a Wells uniform.
