Baseball Team Stymied by Opposition Hurler

The Wells baseball team had a tough afternoon on the road at Penn State Harrisburg on April 3. In the first game, the Express were stymied by a no-hit pitching performance from the Nittany Lions. In the second game, double-digit stranded Wells runners kept the Express from narrowing the deficit.

Game One

Penn State Harrisburg's Drew Harshbarger allowed no hits against Wells to lead his team. Wells' Jared Strait (Lansing, N.Y.) had a respectable showing in the loss by allowing four hits and four earned runs with five strikeouts before reliever Austin Jordan (Kane, Pa.) finished the final two innings and allowed a pair of hits.

Game Two

The Express got seven hits in the second game, but 11 men left on base kept the Express from a closer contest. Wells got on the board in the third inning and added a pair of runs in the fifth.

Zack Odum (Elmira, N.Y.) led Wells with a pair of hits, an RBI and a run scored. Derek Shea (West Kingston, R.I.) also had a pair of hits with an RBI. Contributing solo hits were Orlando Martinez III (Carthage, N.Y.), Julian Kemp (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Max Odum (Elmira, N.Y.), with the latter scoring one of the Express' runs.

Dylan Nolan (Brick, N.J.) had the other run for Wells, while Kevin Spaeth (Haddon Heights, N.J.) finished with an RBI.

Five pitchers saw action for the Express and included Jordan, Shea, Luke Eitner (N. Lehigh, Pa), Chase Sebastian (Eldred, Pa.) and Jack Field (Bethlehem, N.Y).

The baseball team hosts Penn State Berks next on Wednesday, April 7.
