Baseball Team Falls to Conference Leader

The Wells College baseball team hosted North Eastern Athletic Conference leader Penn State Harrisburg in a doubleheader on Saturday, May 1.

In the first game, Wells dropped an 8-3 contest. The Express nearly matched the Nittany Lions' bats with Penn State holding the edge in hits at 11-9.

Wells was led by a pair of hits from Max Odum (Elmira, N.Y.) with solo hits coming from Jordan VanHerpe (Liverpool, N.Y), Derek Shea (West Kingston, R.I.), Dylan Nolan (Brick, N.J), Ryan Foody (Tully, N.Y), Zack Odum (Elmira, N.Y), Kevin Spaeth (Haddon Heights, N.J.) and Aaron Izquierdo (Palisades Park, N.J.), with the latter three also earning RBIs.

Jared Strait (Lansing, N.Y.) took the pitching loss after allowing eight hits with seven strikeouts in five innings of work.

In the second game, Wells matched its hit total from the previous game, but Penn State strung together three early four-run innings to take the contest.

Zack Odum and Spaeth each had a pair of hits to lead the Express. Also registering hits in the matinee contest were Max Odum, Shea, Nolan, Joe Horne (Hicksville, N.Y.) and Luke Eitner (N. Lehigh, Pa).

Chase Sebastian (Eldred, Pa.) took the loss from the hill as the starter after allowing six hits with three strikeouts.

The Express next host SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday, May 5 for Senior Day.
