Shea Gets All-Region Nod

Shea Gets All-Region Nod

Wells College baseball standout Derek Shea (West Kingston, R.I.) was named to the D3baseball.com All-NY Region Team as a designated hitter and became the first Wells College baseball player named to a D3baseball.com all-region team.

Shea was an 2021 All-North Eastern Athletic Conference selection who led Wells in hits with 33, batting average with .418, on-base percentage with .526, slugging percentage with .646, total bases with 51 and tied-first in RBI with 21 as the team's primary designated hitter who also saw some time on the mound. Shea finished second on the team in extra-base hits with 12.

The senior also finished in the NEAC top-10 in six categories that included hits, extra-base hits, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and fielding percentage.

D3baseball.com selects three teams from nominations from sports information directors from eight regions that include New York, New England, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, South, Central, West and Mid-West. The only qualification to nomination is that each nominee be named to its conference's post-season teams.

Shea joins Dylan Nolan as the only players in the brief history of Wells College baseball to be recognized as all-region after Nolan was tabbed by the American Baseball Coaches Association during the NCAA's last full season.
