Wells Pair Join Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs

Former Wells College baseball student-athletes Jared Strait (Lansing, N.Y.) and Dylan Nolan (Brick, N.J.) have joined the Alpine Cowboys Pro Baseball Club of the Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs.

The pair played four complete seasons for the Wells College Express and an abbreviated season due to the health pandemic. Both were distinguished with major team baseball awards during their final seasons at Wells College with Nolan named Defensive Player of the Year and Strait named Pitcher of the Year.

"We are very proud of Dylan's and Jared's ability to make to the jump to the professional level. They have been a big part of the Wells College baseball program since its inception. Best of luck to the boys in the pro ranks!" said Wells College head baseball coach Ryan Stevens, who spent a half-decade as a professional field manager and head coach in the Pecos League.

Nolan is a four-time all-NEAC (North Eastern Athletic Conference) selection and an American Baseball Coaches Association all-region selection during his career with the Express. Nolan finished his collegiate career with 159 hits, 110 RBI and 107 runs with a .341 batting average, .427 on-base percentage and .567 slugging percentage from the plate. In the field, Nolan recorded 842 putouts with 82 assists for a .982 fielding percentage from behind the dish.

Academically, Nolan was a member of Wells College's New York State Alpha Omicron Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, a national organization that recognizes student-athletes from accredited four-year institutions who excel in both the classroom and competition. Nolan is a member of the 2020 Wells College All-Decade Baseball Team.

Strait earned his first All-NEAC selection this past season as the right-handed hurler finished in the conference top-five in strikeouts, ERA, wins and innings pitched. In his collegiate career at Wells, Strait appeared in 52 games with 39 starts and finished with 238 strikeouts, 4.53 ERA and 15 wins. Strait is also a member of the 2020 Wells College All-Decade Baseball Team.

The Pecos League is an independent baseball league that operates in cities in desert mountain regions throughout California, New Mexico, Southern Arizona, Kansas, West Texas and Colorado. Pecos Teams play in cities that do not have Major or Minor League Baseball teams or an affiliation. The Pecos League has two divisions that stretch from the plains of Kansas to the oceans of California to the Mexican border of Texas. The Pecos League regular season is nestled in the middle of the summer from June 1 through August 5.
