The Wells Express baseball team hit the road this weekend to challenge Penn State Harrisburg in a 3 game series.
The Express has beaten Clarks Summit in Aurora earlier this week and were looking to build a winning streak as they continued conference play.
The first game was Friday afternoon and the Lions wasted no time scoring putting up a 4 spot in the first inning. Wells started Zack Cronk who would go 4 innings giving up 7 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits. The Express would not answer back until the 5th inning when Stephen Dietl scored on a passed ball, and Dylan Cappello scored on a sacrifice fly from Zack Odum. Those two runs would end up being all the Express would muster as they fell in the first game of the series by a score of 10-2.
In the second game, Luke Eitner started for the Express, he went 5 innings giving up 7 runs (5 earned) on 11 hits. On offense, the Express struggled to male up for it only tallying 2 hits, one by each Odum brother. In the 3rd inning, Zack Odum doubled, and Max Odum singled to send him home and push across the only run of the game for Wells College. They would fall to Penn State Harrisburg. 10-1.
In the third game, the Express scored their most runs of the weekend. In the 2nd inning, Josh Pita scored on a John Valinoti double. Then, John Valinoti and Austin Jordan scored on a single from Zack Odum tallying 3 runs in the inning for the Express and tying the game at 3. The Express pitching this game, however, walked 8 batters and gave up 2 home runs leading to the Lions scoring a total of 16 runs and securing a series sweep over the Express by a score of 16-4.
