Wells Baseball Hosts Elmira College

Wells Baseball Hosts Elmira College

Thursday night brought an evening match-up for the Wells College baseball team.

Wells baseball was supposed to play at Elmira on Wednesday but was canceled due to the weather. They were able to get this game in tonight on the Wells College turf despite the chilly temperatures.

The game was started by Austin Jordan for the Express. In the bottom of the first, the Express were able to put up 5 runs thanks to 5 walks, an error, and 2 passed balls. Neither team would score until Elmira hit a solo home run in the 5th inning off the right-field foul pole. In the 6th inning, Elmira opened the flood gates and pushed across 6 runs on 6 hits and 1 error by the Express. The Eagles would go on to score 2 runs in the 7th and 3 runs in the 8th giving them a 13-5 lead. In the bottom of the 8th, The Express would hit 3 doubles thanks to Julian Kemp, John Valinoti, and Max Odum that would push across 2 runs. Going into the bottom of the 9th the Express was down 13-7 but were not ready to give up. It started with a Luke Eitner single, a Stephen Dietl walk, and a Julian Kemp single to get one run across. That was followed up by a Joe Horne single that would score Stephen Dietl. After Juan Correa walked to load the bases, Max Odum was hit by a pitch to walk in a run and make the score 13-10. Unfortunately, the 9th inning rally would fall short and the Express would fall 13-10 after a ground out.

Express Stat Leader:

Julian Kemp- 2 for 2, 2 runs, RBI

Aaron Izquierdo- 2-5, 1 run
