EXPRESS EDGE OUT PENN STATE ABINGTON TO REMAIN UNBEATEN

Abington, PA.  – The Wells College women's tennis team won two of three doubles matches and three of six singles matches to earn an exciting 5-4 victory over the Nittany Lions in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action Sunday afternoon in Abington.  The EXPRESS improve to 6-4 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in the NEAC.

The Express lead 2-1 after concluding doubles play where Ellis and Taguchi earned the victory over Mockus and Ulitsky with a score of 8-6.  With the win, the pair remains unbeaten in NEAC play.  The odds tilted in the Express's direction when Shimazaki and Pietruch broke back battling Ochester and Phillips to clinch 3rd doubles at 8-6.

Singles play began with the temperature rising under the blazing spring sun where players were forced to push themselves past exhaustion and make adjustments on the fly.  Ellis crawled back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat Hetzel 7-5, 6-0 at 2nd singles and remain unbeaten in NEAC play.  Copfer earned a second win at 3rd singles for the Express defeating Abraham in a three set battle of attrition by a score of 7-6, 2-6, 6-1.  Shimazki clinched the victory for the Express quickly defeating Ochester 6-1, 6-2.

The Express return to action on Friday, April 20th where they take on Penn State Berks in Reading, PA at 1pm.
