AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's tennis team knocked off the previously undefeated Storm of Keuka College by a 6-3 margin on Wednesday at the Wells College Tennis Courts. With the victory, the Express (5-6, 4-0 NEAC) remain one of only two undefeated programs within the NEAC West Division alongside Penn St.-Abington. The Storm (5-3, 3-1 NEAC) collect only their first loss in league play dating back to Sunday, Apr. 21 versus the Express.

Sophomore Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) remains undefeated in her last 10 matches played in both singles and doubles for Wells. Against the Storm, Benedetto picked up an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles alongside her partner Miku Kugo (Toyota, Aichi, Japan) before defeating Chelsea Craine at No. 4 singles (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) in a three set thriller. The Benedetto/Kugo duo has racked up a 4-0 record this spring with all victories coming against league opponents.

The tandem of sophomore Kevisha Hunt (Germantown, Md.) and Mizuki Furuta (Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan) has also proven steady for the Express at No. 3 doubles. Defeating the pair from Keuka at No. 3 singles, Hunt and Furuta are 3-0 across the NEAC schedule of matches. Hunt carried on her strong play into her No. 5 singles match against Danielle Delgatto, rallying from a 4-6 deficit in the first set to take the next two sets by 6-1 margins. In the No. 6 singles position, Furuta also set down her opponent by a 6-1, 6-4 score.

No. 1 singles player Brittany Vanno (Whitesboro, N.Y.) posted an opening set loss to Emily Knapsack before taking the next two via scores of 7-5 and 10-3 to come from behind for the win. In the process, Vanno picked up her 22nd collegiate singles victory to move up to a three-way tie for seventh place all-time in team history.

Vanno was joined by classmate Giavarna  Faison  (Brooklyn, N.Y.) as they both were honored and recognized for their contributions to the program during the match.

The Express return to action this Friday, Apr. 18 as they travel to the College of St. Elizabeth to face-off against the Screaming Eagles in a 3:30 p.m. match. Wells concludes their regular season versus the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Abington on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
