Women's Tennis Defeated By Elmira, 9-0

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's tennis team posted a 9-0 season-opening loss to the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College on Wednesday. With the loss, Wells dips to 0-1 while Elmira (1-0) collects their first win of the year.

Wells opened the day with strong matches at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The tandem of captain Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) and freshman Kamarie Maturine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) battled their opponents to an 8-4 decision while junior Kevisha Hunt (Germantown, Md.) and first year Danielle Bautista (Moorpark, Calif.) played the Elmira twosome to an 8-6 decision.

In singles play, Hunt battled in an opening set tiebreaker 7-6 (7-2) before falling to Elmira's Stephanie Tock 6-2 in the second set. Bautista continued her strong debut as she battled Elmira's No. 6 singles player to a 7-5 opener before her elimination by a 6-1 score.

The Express travel to Oswego State this Friday, Sept. 5 to participate in a 4 p.m. match against the Lakers.
