Wells fell into an early 1-0 hole as the tandem of freshmen Kamarie Maturine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Kate Wells (Gardner, Mass.) posted an 8-1 loss at No. 3 singles. The Nittany Lions next secured an 8-5 decision at No. 2 doubles as the pair of freshman Danielle Bautista (Moorpark, Calif.) and sophomore Nicole Sanborn (Onondaga, N.Y.) were set back by an 8-5 score.

At No. 1 doubles, the Express got on the board as senior Taryn Heath (Truxton, N.Y.) and junior Brooke Benedetto (Williamstown, N.Y.) secured a key 8-4 victory for Wells heading into singles play.

Maturine evened the match at 2-2 following a clutch win at No. 3 singles, defeating her counterpart by a 6-3, 6-2 score. Wells, however, would not win another singles match as Marje Robinson, Florence Kurtz and Nandita Munindra won at No. 5, No. 4 and No. 1 singles, respectively, to power the Nittany Lions to a 5-2 win against the Express.

Wells has representation in all six singles flights and all three doubles flights heading into the NEAC West Division Individual Tournament beginning Saturday, Apr. 25 at 2 p.m. Benedetto and Maturine enter as the top-ranked players at No. 2 and No. 3 singles and will join their teammates in search of individual championships.
