Daemen Powers Past Women's Tennis, 7-2

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's tennis team was defeated by visiting Daemen College Sunday afternoon at the Wells College tennis courts. With the loss, the Express open their season with an 0-1 overall record while the Wildcats of Daemen College, an NCAA Division II provisional member, improve to 2-4 overall on the year.

The lone Wells victories came at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Freshman Nicole Sanborn (Onondaga, N.Y.) posted a victory after her opponent retired while Courtney Grosser (Penfield, N.Y.) picked up the 6-0, 6-2 victory in the final singles slot.

Last season, Wells defeated the Wildcats by a 6-3 score in their first season as a varsity program. In the first match of the season for Wells, Daemen was able to sweep the Express in doubles play while collecting singles victories in the top four matches.

The Express return to action Tuesday, Sept. 23 as they face-off against the Lakers of Oswego State College in a 4:00 p.m. road contest.
