ERRORS DOWN EXPRESS IN DAY TWO

(Myrtle Beach, S.C.)─ The Wells College softball team continued to battle through early season jitters as they would fall 9-1 to Hudson Valley Community College and 12-0 to Bowie State University on Tuesday in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Express were their own worst enemy in game one against Hudson Valley, committing five errors, while giving up seven unearned runs in the loss. Abagail Williams paced the Express at the plate finishing a perfect 2-2, while Alyssa Acquaviva, Kristen Ryan, and Molly Ploof eached added a hit.

The Express lone run would come in the third inning. Down 2-0, Williams singled to right and Ploof followed with a single of her own to put two on with nobody out. After a fielder's choice forced Williams out at third, Lorelei Meier advanced Ploof to third on a roller to the right side of the field. On the very next pitch Ploof come racing home to score on a pass ball, trimming the lead to one after three.

However, the Express would break down defensively and Hudson took advantage, plating two runs in the third, three in the fourth, and two more in the fifth to earn the victory.

In game two, the Express took on NCAA Division II member Bowie State University (Md.). Megan Alexander stole the show for Bowie, tossing a no-hitter, striking out seven, while walking one in five innings of work. Bowie was also dominant on the offense end, scoring 12 runs on 16 hits as they would cruise to the victory.

The Express will take on the same two clubs tomorrow morning. Wells will face-off against Bowie State at 9:00 am and against Hudson Valley at 11:00 am.
