MUSTANGS TAKE NEAC DOUBLE-HEADER FROM EXPRESS

(Aurora, N.Y.)─ Playing in their third straight double-header in as many days, the Wells College softball team was unable to find any offense as the Morrisville State Mustangs took both games, 1-0 and 9-1, on Monday afternoon in Morrisville, N.Y. With the sweep the Express fall to 1-13 (1-9 NEAC), while the Mustangs improve to 9-9 (6-4 NEAC).

Lorelei Meier (Caledonia, N.Y./Cal.-Mumford) continued her torrid hitting streak, finishing the day with a team leading three hits and has now hit safely in her last six games, going 11 for 20 in that span. Meier was also impressive on the mound starting game one and appearing in game two finishing with a total of nine innings pitched, allowing five hits, striking out seven, while walking just two batters. Molly Ploof (Lake Placid, N.Y./Lake Placid), Kristen Ryan (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden), and Abby Williams (Tilton, N.H./WRHS) finished with two hits each to round out the highlights for the Express.

Game one was a classic pitcher's duel. Morrisville plated the first and only run in the bottom of the first. The Express threatened in the fifth inning. Williams and Ploof singled to start the inning but a strike out, a foul out, and fly out would end any chance for the Express.

The Express again threatened in the top of the seventh. Ryan reached on a throwing error, Williams laid a down a sacrifice bunt moving Ryan to second and Ploof followed with a single, putting runners on first and third with one out. However, the Express would groundout and strike out ending the comeback bid as the Mustangs held on for the game one victory.

Game two would begin as a pitcher's duel with neither team able to plate a run through the first three innings. The Express would strike first in the fourth inning with Paige Stone (Madison, N.Y./Madison) scoring on an RBI single by Williams to give Wells the 1-0 lead. The lead would be short lived as the Mustang bats came alive, scoring five runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth, triggering the run rule and securing the game two victory.

The Express take one day off and then return to action on Wednesday, April 13 when they welcome Keuka College to campus for a NEAC double-header. Game one is set to begin at 3 p.m. in Aurora.
