EXPRESS SWEEP PENN. ST ABINGTON CLINCH PLAYOFF SPOT

Aurora, N.Y.-  The Wells College softball team swept their North Eastern Athletic Conference double-header against Penn. St. Abington defeating the Nittany Lions by a score of 6-3 in both game one and game two on Saturday afternoon in Aurora, N.Y. With the sweep the Express improve to 12-13 (10-9 NEAC), while the Nittany Lions fall to 4-32 (3-17 NEAC).

Brittany Stanton paced the Express going 3 for 7 from the plate, including a home run, double, and seven RBI. Paige Stone finished 3 for 6 with an RBI, while Rebekah Coons finished the day 3 for 7 with an RBI triple.

Clinging to a 3-2 lead after five in game one, Stanton came to the plate in the sixth with two on and delivered a three-run shot as the Express held on for the 6-3 victory. Aly Mann earned the win on the mound tossing a complete game, allowing three earned runs on eight hits, while striking out three.

The Express busted out the bats in game two, peppering the Nittany Lions with 12 hits. Wells jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning, loading the bases and scoring on a sacrifice fly by Stanton and an RBI single by Stone.

Wells continued the hot hitting in the fourth, plating three runs on two hits, including a two run double by Stanton as the Express held on for the 6-3 win. Meier earned the win on the mound hurling seven innings, allowing two earned runs, while striking out three.

With the sweep the Express clinch the sixth and final spot in the NEAC playoffs and will take on No. 3 seed Penn. St. Berks on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in Reading, Pa.
